Finlande
Paris' most trendy night-time venue, the ex-lightship Batofar, gets itself in the right frame of mind for the coming winter months with this festival of Scandinavian music and visual arts. The northern experience kicks off with a Finish party, featuring audio-visual projects by Sanna Sarva followed by Mark and Seppo Renall's 'The Ball Show' performance - a dazzling combination of mirror balls, poetry and record decks. Finally, Ektoverde improvises a Scandinavian-tinged jazz set to polish off the night.

Corner Pub
Tucked away in residential Dorsoduro, this little pub on a corner - hence the name - serves up a range of familiar beers and sustaining snacks until late into the night. The barman actually knows how to pour a Guinness, something of a rarity in Venice. They play great music, turn on the TV for the football or rugby and always greet you with a smile. Get there early if you want a barstool before the locals settle in for the night.
