Caramoor Opening Night: Orchestra of St Luke's with Yo-Yo Ma
Dressy symphony concerts at the Lincoln Center become more than a drag when New York's sweating through the soupy humidity of high summer, which is why the cognoscenti have long since taken to piling into their SUVs for an air-conditioned ride up to north Westchester county for the Caramoor International Music Festival. There, in the cool woods of Caramoor's 100-acre site, they can unbutton and be soothed at once by nature and culture. This year's opening sees celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma joins the St. Luke's orchestra to perform Vivaldi, Elgar and Stravinsky under the baton of Peter Oundjian.
